Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals

The presence of Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDC's) in the aquatic environment has become an issue of considerable concern. EDC's have the ability to alter or disrupt the body's hormone or endocrine system. There is evidence that aquatic organisms downstream of some sewage treatment works show endocrine disruption as a result of exposure to substances in the effluent.

STL have considerable expertise in the development and application of analytical methods to determine EDC's in the aquatic and terrestrial environment. State of the art analytical instrumentation, at our applied research and development laboratory, enables us to determine a wide range of EDC's at ultra low concentrations. For example, STL are able to determine steroid oestrogens in sewage influent, effluent and sludge, surface and potable waters, sediment and soils.
