STL Source provides urban wastewater sampling and monitoring that meets the requirements of the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (91/271/EEC), introduced into UK legislation as the Urban Wastewater Treatment Regulations in 1994.

The objective is to ensure that all significant discharges of sewage are treated to, at least, secondary biological treatment levels, before discharge to inland surface waters, estuaries or coastal water. STL Source provides a comprehensive range of services, designed to reassure water companies of compliance with the basic regulations, as well as cases where sensitive discharge areas are concerned.

STL Source are able to advise responsible organisations in the following areas, in order to ensure compliance:

  • Site appraisal and preparation work in advance of the new regulations

  • The provision of sampling services to both existing and revised regulations

  • Provision of comprehensive analysis

  • Advice on the necessity for additional sampling in connection with the new “Safe Sludge” legislation
